The South African Food & Wine Festival has been part of Grayhaven's DNA since July 2006, when we planted a South African flag in the field, ordered a bunch of South African wine, made not-exactly-legal boerewors and biltong in the winery kitchen, and rented 10 old-school cash registers that required a manual, tech support and a few shots of bourbon to program. We had no idea what we were doing, and neither did anybody else.
Fast forward a lot of years - a lot of dancing and singing, friend-making, and glass-clinking, a lot of performers and visiting winemakers, bottles poured and bottles taken home to share with family and friends. We've worked hard, taken a lot of risks and learned to bow out when the odds aren't in our favor - like 2020, 2021 and unfortunately, 2026.
So that's that — but don't let the back burner fool you. We have a lot to tell you and a full calendar worth showing up for: public philosophy, angel wings, vintage textiles, a pinotage sword fight, things that go bump in the night, and a dog the size of a pony. Now may not be the time for big financial risks, but it is absolutely the time to be creative, make art, connect with nature and gather to make good trouble.
